Guerrero Viejo, Tamaulipas

(Revilla; Antigua Ciudad Guerrero - 1750-1954)

Archives Preservation Project

Since 1999, there has been an ongoing project to archive the municipal and church records of Guerrero Viejo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. These records date back to 1750, the year in which the town was founded. Many of the town’s inhabitants relocated to Laredo in 1953, when Guerrero Viejo was flooded (due to heavy rain and the creation of Falcon Dam). The history of this town is permanently intertwined with that of Laredo. The preservation of these records is an important task with regard to safeguarding the history of the region.
