State of Texas Documents and U.S. Federal Documents

What are government documents?

These publications are produced by government agencies and cover a wide variety of subjects -- laws and legal information, statistics, business, the environment, health education, criminal justice and much more.

Where is the collection located?

The documents collection is located on the 2nd floor of Killam Library, in the bookshelves next to the computer lab. On one side of the aisle the Texas State documents are shelved and on the other side are the documents from the federal government.

How are the documents arranged?

The State of Texas documents are shelved using the Texas State Library’s classification system, which groups the documents by the agency that produced them. For example, all state documents about criminal justice have a call number beginning with “C” (C3900 to C4850.8T).
U.S. Federal documents are shelved according to the Superintendent of Documents classification system (SuDocs) and this also groups the publication by the agency that produced them.

Access to documents

The circulation policy [link to lib page] Circulation Policy for documents is the same as for the rest of the library, however specially designated items, such as reference materials, do not circulate. The collection is available at all hours Library Hours when the library is open.

Your citation will depend on which style your professor has asked you to use.
