TOP OF PAGE

    Alt Health Watch

This alternative health database provides full text for 180 publications in the collection, including full text for many peer-reviewed journals. Alt Health Watch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine dating back to 1990.

    CINAHL Plus with Full Text

CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the world's most comprehensive source of full text for nursing & allied health journals, providing full text for more than 560 journals indexed in CINAHL. Of those, nearly 400 have cover-to-cover indexing in CINAHL, and of those, more than 230 are not available with full text from any other EBSCO database. This authoritative file contains full text for many of the most used journals in the CINAHL index - with no embargo. With more than 600,000 full-text articles dating back to 1937, CINAHL Plus with Full Text is the definitive research tool for all areas of nursing and allied health literature.

    Consumer Health Complete

Consumer Health Complete (CHC) is the single most comprehensive resource for consumer-oriented health content. It is designed to support patients’ information needs and foster an overall understanding of health-related topics. CHC provides content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs & alcohol, fitness, nutrition & dietetics, children’s health, men & women’s health, etc. CHC offers a unique search interface designed to call attention to the full text content available from many important source-types, and provide an intuitive means for searching this specific information.

    Natural & Alternative Treatments

Natural & Alternative Treatments contains detailed information on more than 180 different conditions and the conventional and natural treatments used to treat them, over 200 herbs and supplements, plus drug-herb and drug-supplement interactions for more than 75 drug categories.

Nursing Collection and Nursing Collection 2

Called "Journals@Ovid" on the page. This database indexes hundreds of nursing and related journals, but includes full text for only 28 major nursing journals. If you want to restrict your search to those 28 journals, click the box for "Ovid Full Text Available." References and an outline are included for each article, and links to all graphics (if any) are available, although graphics must be printed separately. Date coverage is 1996-present.

    Health Reference Center - Academic

"Provides an integrated collection of general interest health and fitness magazines, medical and professional periodicals, reference books and pamphlets." The reference book items are primarily dictionary definitions of medical terms and diseases/syndromes and encyclopedia articles related to health and medicine. Full text is approximately 50% for periodical articles. The reference book and pamphlet citations tend to come first in the results, so you can skip past them if all you want is articles - or you can limit your search to articles with full text or to refereed (scholarly) publications. Date coverage for most periodicals is 1997-present.

    Health Source: Consumer Edition

This database is the richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Health Source: Consumer Edition features searchable full text for nearly 150 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.

    Health Source: Nursing/Academic

This database provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features abstracts and indexing for nearly 850 journals. This database is updated on a daily basis.

    Health & Wellness Resource Center

Includes articles from approximately 500 magazines and journals, hundreds of pamphlets, and reference sources such as the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine. Full text is over 65%, and images are available for approximately half the sources. It is possible to limit your search to full-text articles and/or to refereed (scholarly) publications. Date coverage is generally 1997-present.

    LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe Medical Databases

There are three databases here: Medical News, Medical Journals, and Abstracts. Medical News is a full-text database of news items from major newspapers, newsletters, newswires, and magazines pertaining to health and medicine. It also includes full text of newsletters published by FDC Reports Inc., but these must be searched separately. Items as recent as the present day can be retrieved from this database. Medical Journals is a full text database of 20 journals related to medicine, somewhat slanted to legal aspects of medicine and public health policy (nothing explicitly about nursing). "Abstracts" is the MEDLINE database produced by the National Library of Medicine, and is the comprehensive international (though English-language dominant) database of medical literature. It is bibliographic only and does not include full text. A time period (Today, Previous week, Previous month, Previous six months, Previous year, Previous two years, Previous five years, Previous ten years, All available dates) must be chosen for every search, regardless of database chosen - Today, Previous week, and Previous month are effective only in the Medical News database.

    * For these databases, go to LEXIS-NEXIS Academic Universe and click the box labeled Medical.

    ScienceDirect

Approximately 200 of the 1,200 journals covered in this database concern medicine, allied health, medical specialties (including geriatrics, pediatrics, and psychiatry, but not nursing per se), neuroscience, and pharmacology/toxicology. Full text is over 90%, depending on the subject area. Journal coverage overwhelmingly favors Elsevier publications, although some other important journals are included. Selecting a subject area on the search screen narrows the search to the journals assigned to that subject area. Date coverage is mostly 1995-present, although the vendor is adding deep backfiles by title cluster. To get to a search screen, click the Search button below the ScienceDirect logo at the top of the screen.

    Virtual Health Library

Collection of databases, subject and geography portals (e.g. "Psychology"; "Toxicology"; "Spain"; "Honduras") geared toward the study of Latin American health issues. Databases include LILACS; MEDLINE; HISA; LEYES; MEDCARIB; BBO; WHOLIS; DESASTRES; others...

IMBIOMED (Index of Latin American Biomedical Journals)

IMBIOMED offers access to pdf copies of many Latin American biomedical periodicals for free. Users must register first, though at the time of this writing this process is easy. An English version is in development, but the most mature IMBIOMED experience is in Spanish.
